The regulations

As for each kind of cheese produced under an AOC label, a precise definition of "Camembert de Normandie" has been written by a Decree dated on December 29th, 1986. This decree replaced the first one dated August 31st, 1983.

The points specified by this decree are as follows:

- The geographic area for use of the label,
- The conditions of manufacture,
- The means used for the quality control.

Moreover, since June 1996, "Camembert de Normandie" can be produced under the AOP label (Appellation d'Origine Protégée), which is the European quality label.

The right to use this label makes it possible to benefit from legal protection in all European countries.
