This cheese dairy was founded in 1950 by Henri GONDOUIN, technical manager of the Fermiers Normands and by his son-in-law , Michel WAROQUIER, in an old mill from Saint Pierre sur Dives, small town located in the Pays d'Auge which is a high quality milk production area.

The first objective was to produce 800 camemberts per day. The first cheeses were made in 1953 from the milk of 3 local producers. In 1955, the dairy was counting 2 more employees.
The success of the " Moulin de Carel " is slowly growing. In 1962, the dairy's production which reaches 1200 pieces per day is rewarded by a gold medal during the General Agricultural Show. Two other gold medals obtained in 1970 achieve to confirm the fame of the " Moulin de Carel ".

During the following years the dairy expands and modernizes and the daily production reaches 6000 camemberts.
The " Moulin de Carel " is acquired in 1991 by the local VALLEE S.A. Company. The fittings are transformed in order to fit european standard, and the cheese dairy obtains its european agrement in 1997.

In November 1997, VALLEE is acquired by the Company BESNIER, and therefore the " Moulin de Carel " belongs now to the first french cheese group.
